When Tove Lo releases her second album, don't be surprised if you hear a little bit of Beauty Behind the Madness on it.
"The Weeknd's been a big inspiration for me," says the Swedish singer, who has shared the staged with him on a few stops of the 2015 Jingle Ball. "I feel like his music is really sexy, and I like that. I could never pull off what he's doing but I can hear him in some of my songs, so there may be some songs that melodically have the same kind of vibe."
Once again working with the Swedish production duo of Ludvig Söderberg and Jakob Jerlström (The Struts), Lo says she'll start laying down tracks for the follow-up to Queen of the Clouds just after the new year. Despite earlier reports that she was in a sunnier place lyrically, the artist assures us there's plenty of angst on her next outing.
"I was more upbeat, but I'm not anymore," she tells Billboard. "I've been on the road writing all these super happy dance jams but it's turned back into darker stuff lately. It's going to be a similar vibe to [Queen of the Clouds] where maybe the music feels happier than the lyrics actually are. There's that double thing I love to play with. It's my thing."
