The former actress, who hasn't been photographed in public since she dined at Craig's in L.A. June 4, made a surprise appearance at fashion designer Michael Costello and Style PR's capsule collection launch party in L.A. Thursday night. Wearing a tight white dress and oversized sunglasses, the blond star talked to Costello, looked at a few dresses and seemed to be in "good spirits," an attendee tells E! News. Bynes, 29, attended with a few friends and was no "out of control."
Bynes wasn't the only famous person to support Costello, who placed fourth in Project Runway's eighth season and third in Project Runway: All Stars' first season: former Danity Kane singers Shannon Bex and Aubrey O'Day posed for photos on the red carpet, and black-ish star Yara Shahidi popped by the party.
Bynes stayed for "probably an hour" before heading out.
When she left, the witness tells E! News, "the paparazzi went nuts."
Bynes, who announced her retirement from acting in 2012, has kept a low profile for most of 2015. Late last year, the former child star tweeted she had toured the University of Southern California and hoped to transfer from FIDM's Orange County campus, where she had been studying merchandise production.
It's unknown if Bynes will go through with her plans to transfer.
From 2012 to 2014, the one-time Nickelodeon star suffered a series of highly publicized personal and legal setbacks. Since then, with the help of her parents, it seems Bynes is getting her life back on track.
"She is doing really great and is very healthy," a source told E! News of Bynes in February, following a judge's decision to extend the former actress' temporary conservatorship. "She is focusing on reading, yoga and reconnecting with her family." The source added, "She is trying to live a more balanced life."
